I’m a Japanese freelance video editor and colorist. I’ve been using AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT personally, but I’ve recently realized that I don’t fully understand the fundamentals behind AI, including how these systems actually work and issues such as copyright. So I’m thinking about studying the fundamentals of AI and, since I’m going to put the time into learning, I’m considering getting a certification to have something that formally demonstrates my knowledge. It could also be useful if I ever decide to stop freelancing and look for a full-time position. However, I personally don’t see myself working for a Japanese company because of the work culture and working environment. If I do decide to pursue employment, I’d like to challenge myself and look for opportunities with companies overseas. For that reason, I’d prefer to get an internationally recognized certification rather than one that is mainly recognized in Japan. From my research, I’ve come across certifications such as the AWS Certified AI Practitioner and Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900). I’d really appreciate hearing from people who currently work in AI-related companies or have experience hiring for AI-related roles. Do certifications like these actually have value when applying for jobs internationally? And are there any other certifications you would recommend for someone in my situation, especially someone without a programming background? submitted by /u/Kevin_gato
