Hello r/Switzerland from Poland :) I’m seeking advice for a friend (M25, Swiss passport) in Arbon who is planning a significant career change. He has a high school diploma and 3-4 years of experience as an electrician, but now wants to transition into an office-based role. He’s particularly interested in fields related to psychology. We’re aware of the need for further education and have started taking steps: he’s created a LinkedIn profile and is enrolling in English courses to improve from B1 to C1 level. A key detail: He receives disability insurance (IV). Therefore, our main question is about finding realistic and compatible opportunities. Could you please advise: Job Market & IV: Are there employers, sectors, or specific types of part-time/flexible office roles in the region (Thurgau/St. Gallen/Zürich) that are known to be open or supportive of people receiving disability insurance? Are there specialized job placement services or programs for this situation? Education Path: Given his background and circumstances, what would be the most suitable and manageable educational path? Should he look into Fachhochschule programs, part-time studies, or specific vocational retraining (Umschulung) options that might align with IV support? First Steps: What would be the most practical first move? Are there entry-level office positions (e.g., in administration, customer support) where his technical background could be an asset, and which are known to accommodate such situations? Any advice, especially from personal experience or knowledge of inclusive employers and supportive programs in the Lake Constance area, would be incredibly valuable. Thank you in advance for your help and understanding🙏🏽🤍 submitted by /u/kazashka_twitch
