Keep seeing this Ponytail repo everywhere and apparently it makes coding agents stop writing 200 lines for something that should be 20 !? lol Concept makes sense, but GitHub stars don’t really tell me if something is actually useful! Just wondering if there is anyone running it properly with Claude Code / Codex / Cursor? Do you noticeably change the code you get back or is it one of those things where the benchmark looks crazy but normal use feels basically the same? Mainly wondering if it actually saves time when reviewing AI code. submitted by /u/we93

I use it with cursor. It seems to help steer models to using what is already there rather then a ton of greencode, reaching for proven solutions over shiny ones. Not useless not amazing. It will occasionally have the agents “refuse” something I ask it, but generally good reason as my suggestion would just make things needlessly more complicated and I didn’t realize the scope of the existing simplicity.
What seems to help the most is what I call “monkey see monkey do” The llms, Cursor/Grok espicially, are really good at staying consistent with the style you already have in the reference material you give it such as rules, prompts, agents.md, and existing codebase. This goes way back to the early days with supermaven. So if you are verbose and lengthy there then it will continue being verbose and lengthy. If your instructions are curt, your code is simple, then what it makes will also be curt and simple. I’ve found it has the side effect of UI interfaces being boring and simple.
GPT, espicially Sol, seems the have more of a distinct almost cheerful personality, that will normally stay in its thinking and its more cheerful ui design, but I find can leak into documentation and occasionally copy text.
