I’m 21 and I’ve been dealing with gynecomastia for a while now, and I’m seriously considering getting surgery. I’ve lost a significant amount of weight in the past and have gotten really into lifting over the last year. I’ve built more muscle, gotten stronger, and overall I feel way more confident in my body than I used to. The one thing that still really bothers me is my chest. I have actual glandular gyno, so even when I was much leaner it was still there. I also tried tamoxifen, which affected my estrogen levels but didn’t really reduce the gland itself. At this point, it feels like something that training or getting leaner isn’t going to completely fix. It’s frustrating because I can feel good about the progress I’ve made in the gym, but then I’ll put on certain shirts or look at my chest from a certain angle and immediately become self-conscious again. I’ve dealt with body-image issues for years, so I’ve also tried to make sure I’m not viewing surgery as something that will magically fix all of my confidence issues. I just genuinely think removing the gyno would take away something that has bothered me for a long time. I also worry that women won’t like me or think I’m attractive because of it.
