I’m an accountant working for a small lettings company. My director is a former estate agent who thought rentals seemed more profitable. He’s been ‘developing’ software for our finance process, but has no experience in development and no experience in finance. From my point of view, he’s littering my books. I told him he had no development experience and he phoned me up and said “I don’t think it’s fair for you to rub that in my face”. I’m comfortable with AI, I’ve been around tech all my life and know I know I know nothing, but I can still do some coding challenges, done some scripting for mods, been the Excel Guy in firms of hundreds of people - I’m also good at my job and my process. I quietly make software to help with my workflow, thoroughly plan and test it, and read the reasoning and review all output. My stuff works, I know how it works, I know when it’s broken. But my director…well, this is a direct quote of a chat from my boss’s log with Replit, regarding a piece of software for converting booking data to invoice data - he’s copy/pasting between Replit and Claude - bearing in mind this invoice module has been live for 2 months. His handover process was to give me the login and say “can you have a look”. No documentation, no project plan, and it was apparently 98% complete at this point. It…wasn’t. anyway, here’s the most recent: Please give me a concise technical summary of the invoicing module.
- how does it pull bookings from the reservation software?
- how does it decide invoice dates/invoice splits for long stays?
- how does it push to our bookkeeping software? What invoice number format?
- what database does it use? Now so…am I going crazy or is this not everything that should be considered, established, and tested, BEFORE a single line of code is prompted? To note, this is the first post in an exchange about 8 posts long that is entirely copy/pasted between Claude and Replit. Bearing in mind he’s not even got a Business Replit account and has given it full read/write access to our bookkeeping and reservations software that contains all our client data. I also don’t believe he’s actually reading the output - there’s 4 minutes gap between the message above, and his next message. I’ve told him several times that he needs to plan, he needs to think and review, and this is how he’s operating today. This isn’t happening. Are there any articles, horror stories, testimonials or anything that i could send him to back me up on the point that he’s basically sabotaging the company and this approach will set years of traps for him, or am I just being overdramatic? submitted by /u/ChilternRailways
