I recently watched a video of an Indian barber wearing an AI/motion-capture setup while cutting hair. This was likely being done so the system could learn the techniques and movements involved in the haircutting process. My focus wasn’t on the idea that “AI will replace barbers.” Instead, I was struck by the fact that AI training is now incorporating the kind of physical, hands-on skills that were previously considered difficult to automate. A barber doesn’t simply repeat a set of mechanical actions; they understand hair texture, adjust pressure and angles, respond to the customer, and make numerous small decisions throughout the haircut. If human craftsmanship can be recorded as training data, which skilled professionals do you think will be next? Electricians, mechanics, chefs, nurses, or construction workers? And at what point does capturing human expertise become a way to preserve a skill, versus an attempt to build a system capable of performing that task without human intervention? submitted by /u/Void_x7600
