Hi! I’m 19 years old, going on 20 in december. I love partying. It is one of my favorite things in the world. I am known among my friends and I am aware myself that I drink a pretty big amount. I don’t drink often, but when I do drink I drink a lot. Important to note that I am a fairly small guy. I am 172cm tall, aka 5’8’ and weigh about 64 kg (141lbs). I exercise a lot, go to the gym about 3 times a week and play padel or tennis at a high intensity about twice a week. I eat healthy, seldom eat sweets or digest any sugar. I avoid fatty food and eat a balanced diet of high proteins, vitamins and such. I party once a week, maybe twice, and during a party I would say I drink about 12-15 drinks. Just this weekend I drank an entire champagne bottle (12.5%, 750ml equivalent to about 7-7.5 drinks, and then a couple vodka shots on top of that.). Very often when I do drink I end up having memory loss, although I never get in trouble or hurt myself, and I pretty rarely vomit unless I don’t eat much beforehand. I would say I have kept this drinking pattern up for about 2 years maybe. I haven’t noticed any health issues. I don’t experience any pains or such and I have been able to maintain a good education as I will be starting university for medicine in the spring. I have been able to work properly aswell. The main worry for me is the long term issues. I am MOST worried about brain damage. I don’t want alcohol to hinder my future career as it will be heavily reliant on studies. I will also be starting university in the spring for a 6 year medical program which is obviously heavily based on studying and would like to commence a 4 year specialization program and possibly go for a PhD after that. I hope that alcohol doesn’t hold me back in some way. At the same time, here in Sweden alcohol is a big part of our culture especially in university and my drinking might even be more common later on. I have heard horror stories of people who drink a lot and end up looking like a wet bag later on with massive facial deformities, and I don’t want that either. I want to know if I am at risk or have already contributed to some long term damages. Tell me from your experiences: people who have also partied hard or have seen people drink as much as I do how are your/their lives today? What should I do work on? Do I have anything to worry about? submitted by /u/heavyisverygreat
