Lots of end of the world scenarios have floated about, and there’s ill will towards the industry because of people like Altman and Musk. But there ARE positive things AI might enable. My wish list: Complete the calculations needed for a workable unified theory. Sustainable and commercially viable fusion power generation. Instant realtime and accurate translation between every language on Earth. Analysis of SETI signals. Human genome sequencing. New drugs and other medications. Calculations, simulations and analysis sufficient to verify or refute string theory and dark matter. FTL calculations for something like an Alcubierre drive.
