I have a hard time buying stuff for myself. I was laid off twice in 2020 during COVID and ever since then I’ve had a hard time spending money. I will save money for a purchase and then when I get to said amount I just can’t bring myself to spend it. I’m in a pretty stable job field now ( Firefighter) so the possibility of being laid off again is pretty much zero but I still feel like I need to be prepared just in case. I remember how I felt being laid off; no plan, no extra money aside and I promise fit would never happen again. Now, this year I graduated college and turn 30 so I said at the beginning of this year I would finally buy myself an old car (something I have always wanted since a kid). I have the money saved but just can’t bring myself to finally pull the trigger. It’s not just the car situation either; I won’t buy myself lunch, clothes/ shoes or a set of clippers because I’m so worried about what would happen if I got laid off tomorrow. I’m always thinking if I spend this $20 today a $100 problem will occur tomorrow. ( if that makes sense). I don’t want to be one of these old guys who looks back and says I should’ve enjoyed life more and not be overly concerned with money. However, I don’t want something to happen and be without either. submitted by /u/badkneesneedlovetooo
