A good colleague of mine tried to get a permanent residency permit. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find an acceptable job, and he was asked to leave Switzerland voluntarily. (The jobs he liked didn’t offer him enough salary, and his case manager told him not to accept those positions.) In spring 2025, he returned to his home country. This country borders the EU area but has no free movement agreements. It is currently in a critical political situation that has already taken many lives and seems to have no end in sight. What conditions must be met for him to return to Switzerland? Will his expulsion be a disadvantage if he tries his luck in an EU country?
