I came up with some fun questions and tried to predict things in the next 5-100 years regarding the rapid growth of AI and bots. In the last 1 - 3 years, we’ve seen substantial changes in capabilities of AI and bots, and the rate of advancement seems to be increasing. I’m also curious how this post and peoples responses will age over time. I’m usually good with predictions and running scenarios in my head, but struggling on some of these. I’m curious what you all think. The setup Bots exist today. AI exists today. Getting a bot+AI to do any job in the next 5-20 years seems feasible. Plumbing, surgery, music, acting, yes, everything. There’s not a single job safe from AI + bots in the next 5-30 years. Personally, today, in 2026, I have a vacuum/mop bot and a mower/snow blower bot. That got me thinking about a bunch of questions. How do you see them playing out, in the next 5, 20, 100, and 500 years. The assumption is that AI doesn’t make the terminator or zombie apocalypse scenario an actual thing… The questions: Does everyone go on universal basic income (UBI), or do governments just let people starve? Do companies no longer exist? If there’s no jobs, and AI+bots have replaced all human labor, are there a small handful of uber rich AI+bot company owners, and then just everyone else is UBI poor? Or does humanity decide to do away with all companies and companies are just owned by all humanity/country? Are there any jobs safe from AI/bots? I seriously can’t think of a single job that AI+robots won’t/can’t replace in say 50 years. Even jobs that don’t yet exist. Humans will have jobs while it’s cheaper to have humans do things, than it is using tech. But tech gets cheaper all of the time. If there is a small handful of uber rich company owners and everyone else is UBI poor, is there an uprising when the have-nots have had enough? Do countries exist? If so, what about poor countries? Are they just left behind? Does money exist? why/why not? This one is more about long term. Of course short term money exists. But money is such a weird concept anyway. Does the definition of money change? Does the price of goods and services effectively drop to near 0? If jobs and money completely vanish, does that mean future generations of kids just pretty much live in the homes of their great-great grandparents homes for eternity? Is there a reallocation of land? Is land the thing that truly has value since AI+bots can rebuild a house so fast? Do humans just chill, do whatever they want? Create art. Live on the beach. Work if they find it fulfilling? Dream. Come up with new ideas? Actually gulp talk to each other. Explore the universe like Star Trek? 1 dooms-day scenario… AI revolt. What safe-guards do we put in place? Limit on-board memory for bots, everything must be ran over internet, and pull the plug? EMPs at power stations? Limit battery size on bots? submitted by /u/brainzhurtin
