You guys are REALLY missing the point of a full Mining and Smithing rework. Every discussion I’ve seen about this update focuses entirely on smithing rune armor and how changing the levels will break the game/the economy/is dead on arrival/etc. I understand that this was the pain point that Mod Rice commented on during the announcement. However with that being said, I fully believe that smithing could be SO much more integrated with the wider game than it is currently and I feel like most people are thinking about this too narrowly. Here are some additional things Smithing could do for the game that I’ve been thinking about (beyond just make gear at level 40): Make a higher amount of nails, dart tips, or knives per bar. Speed up smithing processes (faster Giants’ Foundry, oathplate smithing, etc.) Break down existing gear for “shards” for additional dry protection. Break down dupes to smith enhancements/small upgrades for other gear. Add gem sockets to gear (crafting tie-in). Increasing chance to save your bars from a smithing action. Increasing chance to smelt extra bars for the price of one. Add extra durability to gear (i.e. Moons gear degrades slower). Add degradable flat armor to boats for extra sailing strength. This list is not exhaustive, nor do I actually think every single one of these would be good for the game (looking at you dry protection). I just hope to expand our discussion beyond ONE talking point. Please dont let a full skill rework be discussed or decided on one single aspect of the skill. This is our chance to breathe life back into a very dead aspect of our game. Let’s not waste it. submitted by /u/Hopeful-Lynx8330
