The hottest summer since records began in 1864 has caused water levels in many Swiss lakes to fall to historic lows. An Eawag analysis shows that, for 12 of the 26 lakes studied, water levels at the end of September were at their lowest since 1970. Lakes in the Swiss Plateau were particularly affected, whilst Alpine lakes benefited from glacial meltwater.
