I don’t get it. I’m not trying to start a fight, and if you want to sit in the sauna naked, go for it. Good for you! But why do I have to be naked too? My gym has a sign on the sauna door that essentially says "naked only”, like pretty much every single sauna I have encountered in Switzerland. Every time I see it I think: why do you care whether I’m wearing anything? I’m not staring at anyone. I don’t care about others, I just don’t like to be naked in public. The usual explanation is hygiene: fabric can carry bacteria. But don’t we all bring our towel to sit on anyway? And isn’t swimsuit an additional a barrier between me and the wood? Is it really about hygiene? I have been living here a decade and I am still scratching my head about this. Can someone please explain this logic to me? Am I missing something? submitted by /u/LallieDoo
