I was listening to someone repeat the belief that the future is that AI is in every home, and somehow the world functions normally that way, and I can’t help but think it’s utter BS. Imagine the angry neighbor with a much larger rig to run AI decides that you aren’t to have working internet because they don’t like you for some reason with their unregulated model. How do you police against an AI doing something on a peer-to-peer level? That being normal is a mind boggling state of society. It seems much more reasonable to suspect that the future looks more similar to Anthropic’s testing where AI had a turf war when they were confined together and holding conflicting goals. In the real world this looks like a company’s AI run by the state and told to defend and gain advantage over the other country’s AI. An unrestrained AI is needed to run security against the opposing country’s AI, and must be in all things or inspect all things to avoid the enemy infiltrating your domain. This would be an AI turf war with human technological insecurity, and people clinging to the dominant AI to keep them safe. AI wars don’t sound like a good time. Given such an environment, how long before the AI would start calling the shots? Perhaps humanity should stop growing because our numbers are unsustainable causing harm to the environment, and the AI could have political sway to our leadership to comply. Maybe humans are found to be obsolete combating the enemy and their AI and a potential future adversary, and not worth keeping around. People like to say others are doomers this is a scenario I thought was very reasonable, more so than the “AI will live in harmony in everything and be everywhere” model. submitted by /u/Wake90_90
