Recently started noticing code sessions compacting themselves even though they are nowhere near the auto-compact setting or close to maxing out the context window. Like I will have a session at 35% context, walk away for a couple hours (the session was already complete anyway), then come back and see it compacted to 10% or less. I’m assuming it’s a way to reduce usage if resuming the session after the cache expires? For example, if Claude code compacts itself before the cache expires, then resuming it would be “cheaper” in a sense since it’s smaller. Just spitballing here. submitted by /u/Helpful_Put_8809
