I recently became a postdoc, and with that I’ve taken on more and more teaching duties. Something I’ve noticed is that when students ask for extensions or accommodations, I’m very lenient with them. But when I was a student myself, I was the opposite, I was harsh on myself. Even when I was sick, I did my best to meet every deadline. So now I’ve realized I’m much harder on myself than I am on others. I’m not writing this with a specific complaint or question in mind. I’m just curious why this happens.
