This has been a truly awful year for my family but my dad in particular is having a rough time of it. He’s had a few health problems but now my mum - his wife - is in palliative care at home with a terminal illness. She maybe has a few weeks left. His son - my brother - is also going through some legal trouble that is causing him a lot of stress. All of that would be hard on anyone but on top of that, the vet has advised that his beloved old dog will need to be put down. Obviously as his daughter I am doing everything I can to be there for him, bringing food, helping in the house etc but I feel like I need to do something bigger, maybe after all of this and I’m looking for some male input. If you were going through a year of hell, what would you appreciate? Maybe even later on, when things have settled a little but you’re grieving, what would help even a little? What should I avoid? What would make things easier without being condescending? submitted by /u/AtLeastOneCat
