99% of players only need one set of rune armor and they only need it for a fairly brief window of their account before its replaced. And if they add another armor you can smith at say level 50, thats still the case. For the skill to be improved, it has to be worth doing at repeating, not just used as a one time unlock. Smithing levels are already needed for some things like godswords and certain repairs and that doesn’t improve the skill at all. If there are going to be updates to mining and smithing, we need an actual reason to do them (true of most skills). Something to work towards and feel progression on. It needs to be either fun, cool or valuable For example, what if the player found evidence of a buried city and had to use mining and smithing to dig it up and restore parts of the city. The player could start by mining to explore parts of it and could find some sort of new smithing forge to smith more complex materials. It could require large amount of resources to build certain pieces to restore the area and upon doing so, you could unlock potentially valuable things such as perhaps a new better range that cooks food faster or new creatures, etc. This is just one idea, but the base concept is to introduce actual progression to skills rather than them just being gathering and processing for the sake of doing so. Something like this could majorly pump up the value of mining and smithing resources, making the base parts of the skill profitable as well submitted by /u/savingprivatedryan
