NPCTalk, turns ordinary NPCs into characters you can hold a conversation with. In its first game, GTA V, players walk up to anyone in story mode and just speak into a mic. The NPC answers in character, in their own voice, within about 1 second, and reacts physically. Nothing is scripted. Every line is made up on the spot from who the character is, where they are and what was just said, so no two conversations play out the same way. The bigger idea is that this isn’t tied to GTA. The project packages the whole setup as instructions an AI coding agent can follow, so the agent can add talking NPCs to ANY game, with notes for Unity, Unreal, Bethesda games and Minecraft. GTA V is the only game it has been done in so far. If it spreads, “talk to anyone” could become a new standard of how games are played.
