I have a vasectomy scheduled for Nov 10th, I don’t really know anyone who’s had one so I’m needing some insight. My hospital only offers the scalpel method and local anesthesia which from my understanding is one shot to the area. I understand there will be 2 cuts on either side where the doctor can do what he needs. So, I’ll be given the shot and then I will be given 5mg of Valium to take an hour so before the procedure. Just looking for other men’s experience and advice. This would be a great thing for me and my wife as we have 2 kids and we don’t want more and not having that worry would be awesome for the future. But I feel like I’m freaking out a bit about it and I have no one really to talk to about it and I know there’s other methods and I just want to make sure that this method is still a good one or if I should look for other options. I’d appreciate any advice! submitted by /u/FlakyBodybuilder9275

I had to get mine twice… Apparently there is a small percent chance… It really isnt that bad. I thought I would smell like bacon when he cauterized the opening… It did not, honestly if that’s how we smell cooking - we must taste awful. Don’t sit on an ice pack too long immediately after as you won’t feel if you are freezing yourself too much. Corn is better than ice packs (and after that you have dinner). You really can’t even get off until this heals so make up for it now.

    1. The itching as hair regrows is almost unbearable. Be ready with powder, etc.
    2. NOV 10th? My doc scheduled them on Fridays, so folks didn’t miss much work.
    3. Cheap multiple bags of frozen corn (loose, not cobs) or green peas, or beans at the ready… Rotate in and out of the freezer. Sit on them all weekend. (or Tues, Wednesday, Thursday…)
    4. Do NOTHING. don’t mow the grass, stock a bookshelf. Sit on your frozen peas and watch TV.

Should be fine after that. Other than that pesky itching.
