I’m (18M) heading to college soon, and I’m looking for some perspective on making close guy friends. I am pretty social, like the kind of guy who knew half of their high school. But I can’t seem to form actual close friendships with other guys. I have friends I have hung around once or twice but it always feels pretty surface level, like hopping on a game or asking for work. But if I ever just hit them up to ask what’s up, the conversations usually went nowhere. On the flip side, my friendships with women are much closer. I have multiple friends whom I talk to regularly and share little quips about our lives, talk about random things and deep conversations. Some Background: My parents didn’t have a divorce but do live separately, so I never really met my father for a large part of my life and was mainly raised by 3 women. My mother, my elder sister and my cousin who lived with us. I am incredibly grateful for the friendships I do have and I feel kinda selfish asking for more, but there are some things you can only do with a guy, and I have started to miss that. As I prepare for college, I want to ask how I can make closer guy friends. Is there something I might be doing wrong in how I interact with guys, or are my expectations for male friendships out of sync with how most guys build bonds? submitted by /u/Calm_Oil_9637
