I (23F) prematurely broke up with my first boyfriend (27M) a little over a year ago for a couple reasons(felt I wasn’t mature enough and was scared of not being enough or too much) but he ultimately enforced the relationship coming to an end( Felt like he wasn’t enough or couldn’t make me happy). We always said when together how we’d never be friends with an ex and immediately after we ended things that’s exactly what he’s been trying to do ever since. I told him I’m not interested in being friends but have been friendly with him bc I care for him a lot and still want him in my life( He knows I have romantic feelings still). A couple months ago I stopped reaching out completely and he’s been doing most of the communication in terms of calling texting or asking to hang out which isn’t often maybe once or twice a month. I’m getting to the point where I know it’s time to cut it off not bc I want too but bc it’s hard not knowing when I’ll hear or see him next. I was gonna tell him “ I’m just not really comfortable with how we interact with each other anymore, I’m happy with the memories I have with you and Id rather not replace them with these new ones where we’re kinda estranged to one another”. Im nervous about having this conversation with him and don’t know if I should take him up on grabbing something to eat this Monday or if I should call and say that above ^. I can genuinely imagine a future with him so I don’t want to prematurely cut him off but at what point do I let go? My question to men is how often do you still hang around a ex you have no intention of getting back together romantically? (We have no sexual relations nor flirting ever since we ended things). submitted by /u/Ill-Association-6029
