Setup: Claude Code (Opus 5.5 Medium), SwiftUI, iOS 17+ apps. When I ask for motion, I get one of two results. Either nothing beyond a default fade, or it goes all in and everything springs, bounces and buzzes. Some real things I found in my own apps after letting Claude handle animation: a success haptic firing on every data refresh, so the phone buzzed every minute a light haptic on every calendar cell when a month loads, up to 31 taps in a row a stagger of 50ms per day, so the last cell took 1.5s to show up on every swipe a .transition that never played because the state change was not inside withAnimation with Reduce Motion on, every photo in a grid was invisible (scale stuck at 0) None of it looked broken in a quick test. It just felt off, or failed quietly for some users. What I expected: one or two meaningful moments per screen, timings that feel like a real app, and calm everywhere else. What I have tried: giving exact spring values in the prompt (helps, but I have to know them first) describing the motion in words (it interprets “subtle” very loosely) pointing it at a reference app (better, but it cannot see the motion, only the code I paste) How do you handle this? Do you give Claude reference clips, a motion rules file, exact values, or just fix animations by hand afterwards? Curious what actually works for people. submitted by /u/60fpsdesign
