Hey folks — I’m the author, sharing this because MCP setups that “just work” come up here all the time. I built ytscrape , an MIT-licensed Python library for scraping YouTube, and shipped an MCP server on top of it (v2.2.0, installs as ytscrape[mcp] ). It is read-only and needs no API key, no quota, no browser . What Claude can do with it Setup Claude Desktop / any MCP client: { “mcpServers”: { “ytscrape”: { “command”: “uvx”, “args”: [“–from”, “ytscrape[mcp]”, “ytscrape-mcp”] } } } Claude Code: claude mcp add ytscrape – uvx --from “ytscrape[mcp]” ytscrape-mcp Or plain pip: pip install “ytscrape[mcp]” and run ytscrape-mcp . Agent-friendly details (things I wish more MCP servers did) Every tool carries readOnlyHint / openWorldHint annotations, so clients can auto-approve them. Responses are size-capped for the context window: truncated

  • a hint that tells the model what to do next instead of blowing up the conversation. Cursor-based pagination instead of giant dumps; page size is capped at 50. Proxy support ( –proxy / HTTPS_PROXY ) when YouTube starts rate-limiting your IP. stdio by default; –transport streamable-http for hosted setups. Try asking “Search YouTube for python asyncio tutorials and summarize the top 3 results.” “Fetch the newest comments on dQw4w9WgXcQ and cluster them by sentiment.” "Get the transcript of this video and draft a blog outline: https://youtu.be/… " Links: GitHub · PyPI · MCP guide I’m the author — happy to hear feedback. And if you only want the library without MCP, the scraping part works on its own. ⚠️ It talks to YouTube’s private InnerTube endpoints (like most scrapers) — use it responsibly. submitted by /u/Mammoth-Aide-5064
