I was paying for two Max 20x accounts, $400 a month, because I kept hitting the weekly limit by Thursday. Last month I went through what was actually eating the usage. I’m on one 5x plan now and shipping the same amount. Long sessions. One session open all day means every message re-sends the whole history. New task, new session. This alone was probably half my usage. Opus for everything. Opus plans now, sonnet does the edits. For 80% of tasks I can’t tell the difference. Self review. I was asking claude to review every PR in the same session that wrote it, 25 PRs a week, and it mostly agreed with itself anyway. Reviews run on coderabbit now ($24 a month seat). It’s chattier than claude on tiny PRs but it catches stuff claude waved through because it wrote it. A 900 line CLAUDE.md loaded into every session. Cut it to 80 lines. MCP servers I never used, still dumping their tool lists into context. 11 down to 2. Letting claude “check if the build finished” every 20 seconds. A background script pings it once when it’s done.
