I’m gonna generalize and give some anecdotal experiences in the first paragraph, but please bear with me. I’m specifically talking about friends who start mocking or shooting shots at others when there’s someone they find attractive at the table whom (correct grammar? idk) they are trying to impress by putting others down with off-hand comments. The type of people who suddenly have a second face, especially when alcohol and drugs get involved. Those who don’t care about you the second an attractive woman is around but are good friends outside of those situations. I’m asking because I have been in these situations a few times now and I never know how to handle it correctly when it’s happening. I feel like I get defensive and awkward because of this behaviour and it mostly just ruins my night when it happens. I’m not the most confident person myself despite actively working on my confidence for a better part of a decade. I don’t want to start a fight or argument and cause a scene while it’s happening, I think that could backfire massively and make me look like an asshole. So far what I’ve tried is confronting them at some later point and just not hanging out with these people at parties. The reason I ask is because I would like to sustain my cool during these situations because I can’t go about my life avoiding them at all times. I don’t want to cut off everyone around me because they have some toxic traits. I’m interested in hearing your opinions, experiences on this. submitted by /u/Tiny-Description3967
