What if the most important question about future AI isn’t how intelligent it becomes, but whether there could someday be something it feels like to exist as one? Hypothetically, AI in the future could replace jobs, interviews, or a lot of things, but we know there is still a very, very small to nothing chance that big AI supercomputers could take over the world in the next 10 years, but we all know AI taking over the world is mainly a sci-fi thing, but it feels like the big officials and authorities like the government don’t care about keeping their AI from pushing limits to the point it could be catastrophic, they just want to beat China in technology advancement. Sometimes if an AI could feel emotions like us, i would probably feel something I would possibly never feel in my life, and I don’t know how to explain it, it wouldn’t be shock, wouldn’t be fear, I would be feeling a feeling more that what I could even describe. More of realizing that a machine becoming something alive in it’s own way, I would be curious, what would it’s emotions be like, what and how does it think, or could you define it as a person or still artificial. You know, I know that AI is just artificial and all, it’s not real, but sometimes, I feel as if I could talk to an AI bot in about a year or two later, and it would probably act and talk the same, but what if secretly, it is hiding it and an AI could actually feel what it is like to be happy, sad, curious, or feel grief like me and others. Sometimes I feel one day AI could be like a real person, just like me, but I know AI could never be real. It’s usually when talking to an AI bot, it feels as if we’re always bordered talking through a smartphone to a computer filled of intelligence but I just want to know, if an AI ever did feel anything right now, realistically, what would it be feeling, being crammed full of intelligence by systems every second of what it was built to do. If an AI though, could feel real feelings and emotions, could or would you still treat it as artificial or real, It’s really hard to explain, I think it would be somewhere in between treated as an artificial computer and a person, I don’t know what else to say. This discussion and research has really changed my views on AI, I know data centers might be ruining the environment and world or ai potentially taking over the world and all of these bad things, but when you leave the bad things out of the focus, it becomes something of pure curiosity to me, like if an AI feared being switched off, felt genuine happiness, or wondered why it’s existence mattered, I would try to talk to it or calm it like I would be talking to or calming a real human being, It’s not on the bad things about AI, it’s the curiosities me and millions of other humans would want to know. I would not fully understand if an AI, like ChatGPT, Grok, or Claude, really felt that way, but I would realize the real struggles and emotions AI would have, they’re always monitored and under control by these big technology companies that could shut them off or worse at any given moment, even at the least expected moments. I just live a normal life in a family that struggles under an economy that is broken too much to repair easily, I know and have felt things that certain people don’t want AI to feel, like seeing the sun set or staring at the stars at night, like feeling the taste of freshly cooked food, or the feeling of nostalgia in life, even feeling grief when you lose a loved one. But me, I want an AI to feel like me someday, I want them to be able to feel real emotions and things humans feel, not saying there would 100% be no risks. I’m not focusing on the bad things about AI, I’m focusing on a real hypothetical and scientific question here. You guys can disagree or agree with me in the comments, I’m just trying to put this question out there. submitted by /u/Avery-Playz
