IDK what other sub to ask this in. Im looking for some rationalization on why guys in general are into these fancy watches. Apparently all the luxury watch brands deal in fake exclusivity. Its a huge hustle. Like they will only sell you an entry level Rolex first. And then you have to buy a certain number of their watches, directly from them, in order to unlock the more expensive and fancier ones. You cant buy on the second-hand market because it doesnt count because its not in their database. I have a couple good friends that are normally very self-respecting people. But in this case, they simp for a sale’s persons aproval. Like just the dude that works at the Rolex store. And hes got them wrapped around their finger. They will just go in sometimes to look at watches and hang out and chat to the guy, who seems to never be busy. These guys also buy and sell watches on the second-hand market to some of the weirdest and sleaziest people ive ever encountered. Im just incredibly confused by the whole thing. Ive not seen this kind of behavior in any other demographic before. I know there are “rare sneaker drops” or whatever which sound very similar. Otherwise ive only seen this in the finance-bro junkies Ive casually met. submitted by /u/Cultural-Bluejay-124
