I’ve been a Claude user for a long time. Started on Pro, then moved to Max 5x. I’ve used everything from Opus 4.6 up to Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1, and honestly I’ve been happy with the models. I even applied to the cybersecurity program to get fewer restrictions when analyzing files. Some context on how I use it: I’m not really a developer. My work is mostly DevOps-ish stuff. Managing configs, reviewing data, writing reports, web maintenance, SEO, deploying apps, connecting APIs. Some basic coding for my own small apps (like a personal run tracker), but nothing heavy. Claude Code was my support tool across all those projects. Recently I was investigating some files for work and Claude Code refused to continue because of personal data / privacy policies. It was a completely legitimate task. That stopped my work and it really annoyed me. I was already running some local models with Ollama, so I decided to try Ollama Cloud together with OpenCode. And I’m genuinely glad I did. What I’ve been using:
- DeepSeek V4 Pro and V4 Flash
- GLM 5
- Kimi There’s a lot out there beyond Opus, Sonnet and Fable. OpenCode is provider agnostic, so I can pick whatever model fits the task, and even run a small 9B or 12B model locally on my machine. That makes a big difference for me. Along the way I also found Hermes as an AI agent. Before, I had to build my own “agent” as a project inside Claude Code and maintain it. Now there are tools built specifically for that. I’m also starting to explore skills like Pony Tails to add as plugins in OpenCode. To be clear: if you’re happy with Claude and your subscription, great. No judgment, it’s a valid choice and Claude Code has been amazing for me. It just never fully matched my philosophy, and OpenCode does. I think it’s healthy for the community that real alternatives exist. It sends a signal to the big companies, and they keep getting better. Partly I’m writing this to vent. But I’m also curious: has anyone else been blocked on legitimate work (data analysis, security analysis, anything with personal data) because of usage policies? How did you handle it? EDIT: A few things after reading the comments. Yes, I used AI to write this post. Of course I did. I take my idea and AI helps me put it into words. English is not my first language. I find it funny that we’re all here talking about using AI every day, but some people get upset when they read a post written with it. No, this is not an ad. Not everything on Reddit is marketing. I’m not selling anything, I’m just sharing my experience. To the people saying I don’t know what I’m doing: I’m fine. I’m happy with how I use AI, with what it gives me and with how I make a living. I don’t need to prove anything to anyone here. If you’re leaving hateful comments that add nothing, maybe ask yourself why you’re spending your time on that. It doesn’t lead anywhere. And a big thank you to everyone who added value. The positive comments, the new ideas, and the ones that made me rethink whether this is the right move or not. That’s exactly what I was hoping for. submitted by /u/jimmyfoo10
