I use Claude Code on my linux machine to whip up tools left and right for any whim i have to get things done. Its been a quality of life boon I never expected id have access to. But today something came over me after making a quick little screen-crop-grabber, that the commercial giants might lobby for limiting how much AI coding can actually help us do. Especially after the whole Adobe thing lately. Anyway, what i would ask, is if I could get recommendations for the local open weighted models i can download now that are the current top of class, to store away for a rainy day, just in case. If they ever do hide more capability from users down the line, id like to have backup contingencies already stored safe in my control now instead of scrambling then.
