my boyfriend and i are getting to the stage where we are wanting to get married and move in with each other. so the inevitable conversation came up; money. he comes from a wealthy upbringing (i’m talking trust fund baby) and i come from borderline poverty. regardless of those facts, we both came out as kind, well-rounded, financially responsible adults who don’t “worry about money” but just in different ways. he learned the true value of his privilege and wealth, and uses it responsibly. i learned how to navigate my situation and now maintaining stability for own my bills/expenses. it’s been an obvious difference in our relationship, but nothing that really changed our compatibility. when we started talking about money and the future of it, i mentioned i had credit card debt and not an awesome credit score - and how i would use the money i spent living alone to then put that money to paying down debt. he has zero debt and a “generational credit score”, lol. so the concept of it was hard for him to grasp and he just seemed … worried? when i asked him, he said he just doesn’t understand it, but wants to help so i feel more secure. so all that to ask, men, how do you feel about being in a different financial spot than your partner? is it a deal breaker? did you help them? did they help you? submitted by /u/gundampoon
