Vave - a popular creator of electronic musical instruments and devices recently launched a small Midi synth/sound module. They used a common microcontroller at its heart and it seems that by accident (or inadvertently) didn’t lock the firmware down. This has led to a huge amount of activity in alternative firmware. Further another major manufacturer Behringer - to launch new hardware specifically to be open source saying that AI allows people to write firmware now, and they want to support it. There is a bit of backlash that the ‘Behringer Kick’ (their initial device) is very similar to an Akai device… So Akai fans are calling them out on this.
