I was on a date with my crush when this guy showed up. He’s her friend, and he has a crush on her too. He’s always trying to hit on her, and honestly, he seems like the kind of guy who thinks he can get away with anything because of his money. I have a basic phone and dress pretty simply, while he comes from a really wealthy background. As soon as he arrived, he started making fun of my phone and my outfit. He was being a complete asshole about it. The thing is, I know he was just trying to put me down, but it still got to me. I didn’t know what to say or how to react. My whole mood changed, my face went completely blank, and I just sat there feeling humiliated. My confidence dropped, and I couldn’t even think of a proper response. He eventually did his thing and left, but the whole situation stayed with me. What bothers me most isn’t even what he said. It’s how helpless I felt in that moment. I felt like I couldn’t stand up for myself, and I hate that I let someone’s comments affect me that much. I want to know how I should deal with situations like this as a man. I’m mature enough to understand that money, expensive phones, and clothes don’t define my worth, but knowing that logically and actually feeling it in the moment are two different things. How should I have reacted? What would a confident, self-respecting man do in that situation? How do I learn to stand up for myself without looking insecure, getting aggressive, or trying too hard to prove something? I want to be the kind of man who can handle situations like this calmly, without letting someone else’s behaviour ruin his mood or make him feel inferior. I genuinely want to understand how to develop that kind of confidence. submitted by /u/bhondulal_bhola
