When electricity was first introduced, we thought of it purely in terms of human labour. It could do the work of many people. The average US household today consumes around 10,500 kWh of electricity per year — but we don’t use it to do labour. We watch television, listen to music, keep our food cold, A/C, heater, lights. Desires that didn’t exist before electricity created them. When computers arrived, the very name says it all — computing power. Doing the work of many human calculators at once. If you travelled back to 1969 and showed a NASA scientist your smartphone and told him it has a million times more computing power than the computers that landed men on the moon — he’d probably ask: “So is everyone launching rockets from home in the future?” The reality? TikTok, dating apps, streaming, online gaming. Things that didn’t exist as human desires before the technology created them. Now AI is here. The pitch is identical — it can do the work of hundreds of coders, it will replace workers. It’s the same pattern repeating itself. Every transformative technology introduced an entirely new way of living. New desires. New things to do that didn’t exist before. Things nobody predicted because nobody could have imagined them yet. If you met someone from the future, you would ask the same question. “Has AI replaced nearly every human worker?” Do you see the pattern? Where do you think AI is actually taking us? Can anyone imagine the things that this will make possible? Note: English isn’t my first language so used AI to check grammar and vocabulary. submitted by /u/Imaginary-Energy6898
