Hi, ive been thinking about the future scenario where AI takes most jobs in the western countries. Let’s say this does happen as predicted. Universal basic income has been proposed by many experts in the field. But I dont hear anyone discuss the actual logistics of UBI How would UBU be provided and who would pay for it? In my country The Nerherlands i havent heard a single politician talk about this scenario in a serious way and I try to stay up to date wirh US politics and havent heard any serious discussion about this either. Let’s say AI becomes as successful as being predicted and the job market gets flooded with cheaper AI alternatives and people lose their jobs on a mass scale. Govermenrs across the west arent financially able to provide UBI. So in theory the only orginsations/people who could actually afford to provide people with UBI would be the AI companies selling the product. If we are to assume the AI companies would provide UBI, would they only provide it for citizens in their own country? Or would OpenAI pay for my UBI in the Netherlands? What strings would be attached to receiving this UBI? Etc etc I would love your thoughts from people who are more informed about thia then j am submitted by /u/Loud_Bison572
