I would assume centralized is more efficient but I wonder if in places where most of the energy is produced from renewable sources, it would actually be a better option than huge warehouses? Maybe the natural resource bottle neck would encourage more mindful prompting (like making an image for this post hum hum) and the privacy upside is (as I understand it) considerable?
