It really frustrates me how they have made the motorbike tests so difficult to pass and also so subjective that I do get the feeling they don’t just take you out during your test to observe how you handle every day situations, but make a point of tricking you or expecting you to ride in such a way for the conditions I would say were borderline dangerous. I’ve been riding on a A1 license for about 12 years and before i did my test had 5 lessons for the first test and 4 more for my second test so was well prepared, or so i thought! I failed my first test for riding too defensively when entering a motorway entry way in Urdorf Sud the entry turn if so sharp, and actually the curve gets sharper that I had to ease off the power to make the turn, and I honesty though to myself this entry point even in a car is borderline dangerous given you need to somehow take this entry point and speed and merge onto a very short runway before going into the tunnel. i get it that i need to able to handle all situations but when you have a guy sitting behind you its nerve-wracking anyway and doing this road is mad. oh and it was wet weather also so i also was failed for riding for a long time in second gear at 50KHM going up a hill. I told him its a new bike and not properly worn in so going up hill with a passenger is not enough power for 3rd gear. he also told me you didn’t use 6th gear. I only have 5 gears! The second test was also a huge frustration on my behalf and I’m not sure if this is because I wasn’t made aware they will play a game to trick you or because i didn’t expect them to set traps. In this scenario, he told me explicitly, 1 tap to turn left, 1 tap to turn right, no taps go straight ahead. on this road is this sign, (Blocked by reddit) naturally i knew it means there’s a no entry coming up but he didn’t tap. To the left of this sign there is a left turn (no road markings) so i carried on until we got to the actual no entry sign and said “now what? you didn’t tell me to turn” he said, no you should not have entered this road as it clearly states no entry. i disagreed and said, no it shows “No Entry in 45M”. i said i didn’t know if there was a turn further down here or you wanted me to pull over and change bikes. he disagreed so we turned around and went on our way… this is a 50 KMH road so bearing in mind they fail you for riding too slowly also, this app happened very quickly I guess with this one i cannot determine, if should have been warned about this during my 9 lessons, or practised for this with my instructor. we spent a lot of time how to ride but not on “be careful of the traps they set for you.” The other rider also taking her test also failed due to him telling her to turn onto a no entry road. she spotted his trap too late and she panicked indicated, slowed down before the turn before carrying on. I did read somewhere that taking your test towards the end of the season is bad news as they have quotas to fulfil. of the 4 or us taking the test that day, all 4 failed! for the girl i was with it was her 3rd try also… i do think part of the test is a mental mind trap which needs to be taught also as i honestly didn’t think the examiner would give you instructions to see if you do as they tell, as in full trust, and see if you go down a one way street for example. i was never told what i should do if I’m told (tapped) to turn right and see its no entry… now I need more lessons for my third test next year being fully aware of the games they play. submitted by /u/vespa-chancer
