We were friends since middle school and I hung out with him all the time in my 20s and early 30s. I would sleep over at his place multiple times a week from after college until I moved away. I visited him three years ago and we met up at a convention, but I hadn’t seen him in person in two years. He stopped responding to my text messages about a month ago and a mutual friend called me this morning to say that he was found unresponsive this morning. I talked to the mutual friend, and apparently my friend had reached out to him for help on Monday. But he wasn’t being straightforward enough I suppose because our mutual friend didn’t come and visit (they live in the same town). When my mutual friend was talking to me this morning, he said that if he had known how bad it was, he would’ve obviously gotten seen him, etc… I had no idea that my friend had lost his job and that he had been drinking so much. He literally drank himself to death. Apparently he just did not stop drinking for days and days on end. I didn’t know he was suffering so much anxiety, but the mutual friend told me that. I expect there’s gonna be some sort of Service in a week or two, I don’t know when, and I’m gonna have to fly out. Which I will, expensive plane tickets, hotel, whatever. This guy used to say he would embarrass me at my wedding someday. He was always so into comedy and I found out way later in life that he only got into comedy because of me. I even ended up taking comedy classes for over a year and my plan was to go visit him and take him to a comedy club get on stage and when my set was over who’s the comedian now bitch Now he can’t be at my wedding and I can’t do a set in front of him I’ve never had a friend die. Everybody is surprised. It seems like almost nobody saw this coming. Well, literally, nobody did but I mean, it sounds like he had stopped talking to mostly anyone. But it’s hard to notice things when you’re multiple times zones away and it’s an absence. Idk I was thinking about writing down basically everything about him, since he was my best friend for almost 3/4 of my life. What do you do? We’re not even 40 submitted by /u/frompadgwithH8
