Over the past year, I’ve noticed a growing push by OpenAI and Anthropic toward making AI models more agentic, particularly in how much work they can accomplish from a single prompt. I think this is a much bigger experiment in human-AI interaction than we realize. We were initially used to working alongside these models, guiding them step by step, making decisions, correcting mistakes, and understanding what was happening along the way. Some of us actually preferred working that way. But now, increasingly, it feels like the model is running while we’re still walking. The model can execute entire workflows, make dozens of decisions, and produce substantial amounts of work before we’ve had the chance to fully process what’s happening. And I wonder whether this growing gap between the pace of AI and the pace of human understanding might eventually create more complications than benefits.
