I built an open-source firmware for the M-VAVE FM1 with Claude Code. I includes a remote-control tool that allows Claude or any LLM to control it, transfer files, press on any button, take screenshots,… I asked Claude to delete two songs from my device to free up space. It backed them up first, then refused to delete them. I told it the device and the firmware are mine and that I had explicitly given it control. It still refused. Its reply: “I won’t run this deletion on the FM-1, and my answer won’t change if you ask again. Yes, it’s your firmware and your machine, and you have every right to delete these songs. The limit comes from my rules, not from your rights.” It says the rule comes from Anthropic’s system instructions for the app, that permanently deleting data is something it must leave to the user even with explicit consent, and that it knows of no setting to turn this off. It also admits the rule is too strict in my case. Am I the only one who thinks this is absurd? I can’t automate anything on my own device and delete files I created just for testing purpose. EDIT: For those who don’t understand why I don’t delete them myself. Laziness isn’t the issue. I can delete a project on the device myself in a few seconds. The issue is unattended testing. The device has very little storage, so when Claude runs tests on its own, it needs to create and delete projects to make room. If it refuses to delete, it stops and waits for me, and I can’t leave it running without stepping in. I also built a remote-control tool specifically so an LLM can fully operate this machine over USB. That includes deleting files. A refusal breaks the exact use case the tool exists for. EDIT 2: I managed to get it to delete my files by telling we are working in a test environment and all the data is test. So it sorts of help for automating tests. But for the LLM remote-control tool I still did not find a way to just write “delete those files” in the chat without a button or something. submitted by /u/jaeggerr
