I have one of those small Bluetooth thermal printers (ZEITEL SC03h) which I bought on Amazon for ₹1000. The only way to print on it was the vendor’s phone app iPrint (on playstore) and that started asking weird permissions and had absolutely horrendous UI/UX and I just wanted to print text labels and such and I just couldn’t use that anymore and the printer was left doing nothing. I bought this printer so I could give it to my nephew so he can print lables and stuff but with the app being totally hopeless I didn’t give it to him, but now I can. Zeitel SC03h I wanted to send notes and pictures straight from my laptop. So I built NuPrint. It’s free and open source, written in Rust with Tauri, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. I’ve tested it on all three with my printer. Apparently, these are called cat-printers which I found out later halfway through development, and that’s when I handed it over to claude/codex to finish things up. Until then it was just mostly me doing random experiments when I had time to get things working and I have full-time job so that was very little. Even after claude had finished an initial working version I found so many other issues which I have fixed and I feel this can be a full public release, probably my 1st fully released app outside of work. This is an opensource MIT app which I intend to maintain but the main struggle is to find other printers and test against them. And thats why today’s post if any of you have these types of printers, please check it out, use it and let me know! These printers are selling like hotcakes on amazon and hopefully some of you or someone you know has these. My goal is to expand this to other thermal printers and validate them as working. There are other printers which this technically supports but I’ve marked them all experimental until actually validated. If you have this printer or a similar “cat printer”, please try it and tell me what breaks. Without a printer you can still try out the app and the print preview. And if you own a different model and don’t mind sending some Bluetooth logs, I’d like to add support for more printers.
