It’s something I’ve seen a lot of people complain about, in particular from people who moved to Switzerland and were used to longer opening hours in their home country and list it as a downside of living in Switzerland. I’ve also seen swiss people complain about that. Stores in Switzerland apparently have shorter opening hours and it’s complicated for people who work to do their groceries before it closes. It is well known that the reason stores have those hours is for the well-being of workers who do not have to go home to late in the evening or wake up too early in the morning. Now I recently saw a comment on here or r/askswitzerland about how those opening hours are backwards/unconvenient or something and that, although they understand it’s for the workers, students would love to works during evenings and Sundays. I never worked in a store so I don’t know how it functions. Would any of you like to work in grocery stores earlier than 8AM or later than 7:30PM? (genuine question, not passive-aggressive/rhetorical) If anyone has worked in a grocery store, did you have a say in your hours to any degree so that you if they change it wouldn’t work up to hours you don’t want to work? If stores start having those hours, do you think workers will have to adapt? Edit to add that I’m rather opposed to longer opening hours and I wanted to check if the argument I’m refering to in the third paragraph actually made sense.
