Joined a late-stage startup in August. 25 year career covering many industries, including 8 at Meta. Neither of my new teammates made themselves available to help me onboard. First teammate flatly refused to give me the time of day for the first month. I was 100% remote, and dealt with insane IT issues like not being able to get my own local office machine to ssh into dev. When I was told one would be appropriated, it sat there for a week, IT telling me they couldn’t find it a power cord long enough, Left with only shaky vpn to run long loops/goals from my work laptop. Total mess. Their main storage was constantly filling up with no one monitoring. Hired to help build a RL continuous training flywheel system extending their operations into multiple clouds. Built a prototype to use GCP, though could have easily adjusted to use any. Focused on building a k8s worker runtime, predicting job shapes onto appropriate hardware, breaking up jobs even to build their images on cheap CPU nodes. I mentioned I was remote, so getting people’s time was highly valuable. We had touchpoints every day, multiple times a day. I used Claude to plan my projects, phases, intermediate deliverables, testing regime, and rollout strategy. I get an email with my coworkers copied saying “my” choice to use Googles cloud should have been run by IT … the same idiots who left my devpc unplugged for a week. I scheduled the 3 month demo, gave it, got few questions, then had a 1:1 with my boss saying I was being let go. I didn’t get a word in, was hoping for any feedback, I ask for some for it and he sent me a md file ironically complaining that my work was too voluminous to review adequately. After being told it’s not possible for them to review all my ai generated code, and after a major back-and-forth of what I had been given the green light to literally merge my own unreviewed changes, NOT something I asked for. This is literally a company on the forefront of building at the edge of what’s possible with ai. So, it’s not as if they don’t generate code. Most Jira, bitbucket comments show explicitly they were written with Claude. I’m just so disappointed. I do have meticulous and automatically generated, daily logs, meeting notes, so I know I didn’t miss meetings or show up unprepared. It’s just insulting. Didn’t even have the decency to dress it up as a HTML. Just a crappy .md saying I was being let go, also generated by Claude. submitted by /u/College-Wise
