We have to vote about increasing VAT to cover the additional expense that the pensioners voted to give themselves. I heard someone in the “no” camp say the money should just be taken from the asylum budget. I had a look at the numbers: Total cost of AHV: 60 billion per annum, 15 billion of which already comes from federal taxes as the worker’s contributions aren’t enough. Cost of the 13th month increase: another 5 billion per year. Both will increase gradually as more and more people retire. Total cost of everything having to do with asylum for the Bund: 3.5 billion per year… so we could stop EVERYTHING with asylum and we still wouldn’t be able to cover the current increase, let alone the future. Why are people so unserious about basic calculations? I’m not saying there’s nothing wrong with the way we do asylum but clearly that’s not where most of the money goes. I don’t want to raise VAT but I don’t really see a way to find 5 billion every year somewhere else. submitted by /u/ChezDudu
