At some point I realized that “following AI” had quietly become a second job. That’s when I knew something was off. Every week there’s a new model with a name that sounds like a line of laundry detergent. One CEO says it’ll save the world, another says it might end it, and sometimes it’s the same person six months apart. Meanwhile Europe is writing rules, someone is raising billions, a paper drops that changes the picture, and the Pope weighs in. All true, all relevant, all scattered across a hundred different places. The problem isn’t a lack of information. It’s that you can’t line it all up. Something you read today doesn’t make sense without something from three years ago, but you already lost track of that one. So I built a tool for myself: Segno ( segno.app ). It’s a timeline of AI from 2013 to today, split into six lenses: models, measured capabilities, research, market, culture, and policy. All on the same axis, so you can see what shipped, what was happening around it, and which regulation came after (or didn’t). Every entry has a source and a stable link, no “people say” hand-waving. Right now it’s 313 entries and 292 sources. There’s also a sentiment band above the Culture lane, showing how the tone of public statements swings between enthusiasm and fear. Let me be upfront: it’s an editorial reading, not a scientific score , and the site says so. I’m also not claiming that two events close in time are causally linked. I put the facts in order, the judgment is yours. It’s not perfect or complete, and I’ve almost certainly missed important things. There’s a page for flagging errors and suggesting sources, and I actually read what comes in. I’m sharing it because maybe it’ll help someone else who feels like they’re chasing a moving train. If you take a look and tell me what’s missing, what’s wrong, or what’s useless, you’d be doing me a favor. Praise is welcome too, but I’d rather have the criticism. submitted by /u/New-Technology-7158
