Original Reddit post

So I made a post on a different account (now deleted for obvious reasons), about a specific feature I wanted on Claude Code. What is insane to me is that a couple months later I got en email from some random person who was advertising their feature that was similar to what I described. In the email, they literally say “Hey I saw your post about XYZ and wanted to inform you…”. I was absolutely shocked. I have never ever associated my email with my reddit username anywhere public whatsoever. After some digging it seems like the only way they could have done this is either by hacking Reddit (unlikely), finding a post where my username and email were mentioned together (as I said I have never done this, and it is fair to say MOST redditors never post their emails and usernames together ever). So more likely, they got access to some 3rd party data breach where reddit usernames tied to emails got leaked. Otherwise I am at a loss. Crazy to think people can get emails on here. You can imagine an era where hackers can scrape people’s emails on here, archive all your posts, and then threaten to leak everything to your work or something unless ransom is paid. I know that is kind of extreme, but it seems like the “anonymity” that makes Reddit so special is breaking down. submitted by /u/GrandmasterCheetah
