I get a scissor cut and have been going to the same person for 5+ years at this point. I have always tipped 20% for every haircut. When I first started going a cut was $32 (without tip) prices gradually went up until they hit $45. Then my stylist quit that shop to open up a one chair salon. Rather than continue going to my normal shop around the corner, I have started going to the new shop over half an hour away. The first time I went I was charged $50, I tipped 20%. The second time I went, when the cut was done I was told the price went up to $60. That’s just shy of double what I used to pay, not including tips. I’d like to keep going there but these prices are getting wild with tips. Now that they own the shop and get all of the profit, is a tip still a necessity? submitted by /u/ToneThugsNHarmony

Tipping is entirely voluntary; how much you choose to give is entirely up to you. There really shouldn’t be a set standard, but if you insist on calculating it according to a standard, then those Hollywood celebrities would be handing out $100 at the drop of a hat,
