Diablo turns 30 this year (it came out on 31 December 1996), and as a long-time fan of the original, which had a huge impact on me growing up, I was really hoping Blizzard would mark the milestone by giving people what they’ve wanted for years: a remaster of the original game. That hasn’t happened, so about six weeks ago I decided to try to recreate my childhood game with Claude. I’ve really been enjoying the project, and here’s where I’ve got to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf8G9-r_gXY It runs on top of DevilutionX, the open-source port of the original game, and I’ve essentially built a Godot client over it that draws everything in 3D. It’s a similar approach to Diablo II: Resurrected, which kept the original game running underneath and put new 3D graphics on top. So the town, the townsfolk, the quests and the items all behave as they did in 1996, with a few touches borrowed from Diablo II (mostly UI and QoL touches like displaying items on the ground). The assets are a mix of ones I’ve made myself, free ones, Claude generated and some I’ve paid for. Claude Code did the heavy lifting was the code: the bridge between the engine and the client, the client itself, and the pipelines for building, checking and rendering everything. I’m excited to start working on the next stage of the project which is building out the first combat areas of the game. It’s just a personal project and I currently don’t have any plans to distribute (Blizzard lawyers scare me) but it’s been fun working on a passion project and there is no way I could have done this without Claude. I’ve been seeing a lot of game related projects on Reddit recently so interested if anyone else is working on similar projects. submitted by /u/adamobrn
