Hi, I am a little upset right now and wanted to come here and vent a bit. I’m non-EU, came to Switzerland 2 years ago to be with my partner (not married) and currently am in my last semester of a Master’s Degree. I speak German and English (got C2 certificates for both languages), I can understand the dialect in my Kanton very well but I never really attempted learning to speak it. 2 months ago I have started the job search and as expected I received a ton of rejections, because of course I don’t have experience working in Switzerland, or any relevant experience for that matter. I had an internship in the field I’m looking for (which is as good as dead in Switzerland I fear) and that’s about it, and I was doing different service jobs back in my home country. So I have been applying for entry-level positions and internships. After 30+ applications I finally got an interview and received the position, which would start after my graduation date. I thought it was too good to be true, and I asked again about visa sponsorship since they did not mention it in the offer. And what do you know, the second that was brought up, they said they are not able to do it and can no longer consider me for the position. Honestly, I already know what you are going to tell me. It’s impossible to get a job with visa sponsorship, especially not for entry positions. 30+ applications is a rookie number. I should probably network more, since many jobs, if not most, are offered through Vitamin B here. I will still continue to apply to more jobs while I finish my thesis, but I don’t know if anything would change. My partner and I have talked about this situation more than I can remember. And she wants to marry me so I can stay here. I would also want that, since we have been together for a long time (7 years) and marriage has always been a topic, but it being because of immigration issues leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But I guess I am just not being pragmatic enough. I feel so incompetent and guilty to have to resort to this. I also know that the marriage process takes incredibly long, and the permit change after that too. Best case it would take 6 months, worst case years. And in my head right now, I keep thinking about the worst case scenarios, that I will have to go back to my country where everything is worse, that I will go back to service jobs after my Master’s and make myself unemployable for the years to come, and that my partner will also break from the mental and financial stress I give her. I feel like I’m slowly spiraling as these worries pile up every day… I don’t really know what I am asking from this sub, but I just wanted to vent. I will still fight though because not sure what else I can still do. Edit: Thank you everyone for your supportive comments. Really means a lot to me. And I really do agree that I am blowing this out of proportion in my head, but I’m being a bit emotional right now. I am not denying accountability so that’s why I said I came to vent and not to say Switzerland is being unfair to me. I hope you understand. submitted by /u/sm0bee
